I am not a competitive Honkai: Star Rail player. I am a simple space raccoon who logs in, does my daily chores, and then spends far too long staring at my profile picture like it is a personality test. In 2026, the game has grown into a proper galaxy-sized hobby, but the profile-picture meta remains wonderfully silly. Some people flex their latest five-star pull. Some people flex a battlepass badge. I flex a trash can. We are not the same.

Honkai: Star Rail still follows the Astral Express crew as they hop between planets and help people with problems that range from cosmic to deeply mundane. Along the way, it kept one of the best gacha traditions: letting you customise your player profile with avatars and messages. The avatar is the first thing people see when they check your profile, so naturally I treat it like a sacred art form. Or, more accurately, like a drawer full of stickers where one sticker is literally garbage.
The Basic Flex: Character Avatars
Let us start with the ordinary stuff. Character avatars unlock when you gain that character through quests or the gacha. Any character you unlock gets a corresponding picture in the profile section. That means your avatar can quietly announce your luck, your favourites, or your questionable decision to pull for someone because their hat looked nice.

These are the most common profile pictures, but common does not mean bad. If you adore Seele, Bailu, Welt, or any other character, go wild. In 2026, with a much larger roster, character avatars are still the easiest way to say 'I love this weirdo' without typing a single word. I respect the simple flex. I also respect the chaos of changing your avatar every time you get a new five-star and pretending you were never loyal to anyone.
Paid And Pre-Registration Bragging Rights
Then we have the Medal of the Nameless avatars. These cute little things arrive with limited amounts in each Nameless Honor battlepass. From what I remember, there are two to collect in the paid second-tier battlepass each month. They are more unique than the standard character pictures, but there is no challenge in getting one. You just need about 20 bucks and a willingness to support the space train economy.

There is also the Trailblazer Welcome avatar, which has two versions depending on whether you picked the male or female Trailblazer at the start. This one was free for people who pre-registered, but it was only available for a two-month period. In 2026, it is basically a vintage badge. If you have it, congratulations. You are either a very early player or a very good liar with a time machine. I have neither, so I admire it from afar.
The Quest-Locked Weirdos
This is where my heart lives. The Wanted Announcement avatar is not the prettiest picture in the game, but it is one of the funniest. During the main story in the Administrative District of Jarilo-VI, you stay overnight at the Goethe Hotel and wake up as a wanted person. Seven posters of the Astral Express members appear on the walls. Tear them down, and you get the avatar. It is a lovely reminder that my friends and I are one bad night away from being public enemies.

Wubbabu is another quest reward, and it comes from the Signs of Fragmentium quest chain on the Herta Space Station. You photograph several of these cute, slightly spooky floating creatures, follow the chain to a room where they have gathered, and eventually get the avatar. I like Wubbabu because it looks like a marshmallow that has seen things. Relatable.

Jun Jun is Hook's bear, and if you do not love Jun Jun, I am not sure we can be friends. Hook's companion quest chain on Jarilo-VI sends you off to help her find a birthday gift for her father. The Jun Jun profile picture is the reward for helping her find the perfect gift. It is adorable, it is wholesome, and it makes my profile look like I have a soft side. I do. It is mostly hidden under trash.

Peppy is Arlan's adorable canine companion on the Herta Space Station. You get this avatar by continuing the quests and eventually helping Asta locate Arlan, with Peppy doing the important dog work. Who would not want a profile picture of this good boy? Nobody. Nobody would not want that. It is science.

The Ranking, According To A Very Serious Expert: Me
| Rank | Avatar | My Very Professional Opinion |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | Character avatars | Classic, useful, occasionally a luck flex. |
| 7 | Medal of the Nameless | Cute, paid, and limited. Wallet says ouch. |
| 6 | Trailblazer Welcome | Rare pre-registration badge. Respect the elders. |
| 5 | Wanted Announcement | Funny, story-linked, and slightly criminal. |
| 4 | Wubbabu | Spooky marshmallow energy. Top-tier. |
| 3 | Jun Jun | A bear. A quest. A wholesome reward. |
| 2 | Peppy | Dog. Need I say more? |
| 1 | Trash | Literally trash. Perfect. No notes. |
Why Trash Wins In 2026
The Trash avatar is, literally, trash. It is the most unique profile picture because it lets you be actual garbage by hunting through garbage. You root through trash cans in Jarilo-VI's Administrative District while also tearing down those Wanted posters. Your teammates are disgusted. The trash cans have stories. You keep hunting, and eventually you get the picture. The image, the randomness, and the quest all place it at the top of my list.

In 2026, Honkai: Star Rail has plenty of fancy avatars and new battlepass rewards, but nothing beats the poetry of choosing trash. It says: I am not here to be cool. I am here to rummage. And honestly, after years of gacha luck, that is the most honest profile picture I can offer. If you see me on the Astral Express with a trash can avatar, do not worry. I am fine. I am just sorting my collection. 🗑️✨
